Enterprise Content Modeling Workshop

Enterprise Content Modeling Workshop

How can an enterprise connect the many ways people create content to the many ways they use it? What's needed is a common foundational, technology-agnostic model of how content should be structured and referenced across systems. At [A], we call that a Core Content Model®, and this workshop is the first step in developing one.

[A] promotes the concept of a Core Content Model® (CCM) as a way to model content across the enterprise in a consistent way. An CCM is a single integrated model that defines how content assets will be structured throughout their lifecycle  An CCM is solely focused on the content structure.

A Core Content Model® creates the foundational organization for content across the content pipeline (modelling, authoring, management, and delivery).

Benefits

An CCM is used to facilitate the complete end-to-end content lifecycle and to enable the optimization of content for each stage. An CCM examines three different aspects of content structure, which helps identify and connect reusable content types:

  1. Type Hierarchy:  How are things like other things?

  2. Composition:  What things make up other things?

  3. Process:  What things happen to things?

Product Details

The Enterprise Content Modeling Workshop will be a working session that constructs a preliminary, high-level CCM involving one content domain, two content types, two standards, and two exemplar representations. Additionally, the workshop includes a refinement iteration and an investment roadmap that identifies clear next steps.

Core Content Model® development activities include:

  • Content inventory
  • Detailed analysis on identified content sets for the defined content assets
  • On-site CCM workshop
  • Development of an initial CCM design (including feedback and iteration)
  • Demonstration and testing of CCM

Deliverables

  • Content relationship diagram
  • Content type definitions
  • Content examples mapped to model
  • Glossary
  • Guidance materials
  • CCM roadmap

Clients Ask:

Going forward, what skills and resources will we need to validate, build out, and implement the Mast

Fulfilling the content engineering role will be required. Content engineers have experience in content modeling and knowledge of XML interchange and DITA  or other industry standards. You can meet this need through an external hire or training an internal resource with the right background and level of interest. Another option is to outsource the role with an experienced content engineer. [A] offers a variety of outsourcing options to assist our clients with this type of transformation.

What can a Core Content Model® make possible for us?

A Core Content Model will help your organization create structured, modular, tagged, flexible content products ready to reuse, combine, and deliver across channels. The Core Content Model is the foundation of an Intelligent Customer Experience.

What is a Core Content Model® (CCM)?

The Core Content Model® (CCM) is a single integrated model that defines how content assets will be structured throughout their lifecycle. The CCM defines the core units of content structure, then maps them to their representations across different platforms and outputs.

Who should be on the internal team for this project?

Ideally, representatives from each stage of the content ecosystem life cycle should be involved in discussions and have a voice. Typically, the internal team includes content strategy (business needs), content creation (authoring), content engineering (content modeling and structure), content taxonomy, content management and flow (IT systems), and content operations (production and publishing).

Will content creators need to understand and use the Master Content Model®?

No, though they should provide input during its development. Content strategists and content engineers use the model and the Content Relationship Diagram to visualize the relationships between content components and develop authoring templates. For most people, the model is behind the scenes.

Ready To Talk?

Assembling content for omnichannel, conversational experiences requires systemic change. Contact [A] today to learn how our seasoned content engineers help clients realize the value of existing content assets and extend value through innovation and content enrichment.
