Data silos
Silos originally referred to round towers used to store grain in agriculture. The silos segregated one grain from another. Data silos are similar in that they are segregated clusters of raw data that are usually only accessible by one department, and are isolated from the rest of the enterprise. Data silos are known to lead to a severe lack of efficiency, transparency, and trust within an organization. Data silos are barriers to intelligent, omnichannel content, because bridges must be built that span such silos.
